1. Introduction
The Usual is a private restaurant journal for saving places, meals, dishes, notes, photos, collections, reminders, and dining preferences. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have when you use the app.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
- Places, cafes, bars, restaurants, visits, dishes, ratings, notes, tags, favourites, collections, reminders, and dining preferences you save. - Photos and media you choose to attach. - Account details, such as email address, if you create an account for cloud sync. - Feedback or support messages you send to us.
2.2 Information From Place Search
When you search for a place, we may send your search text, optional city or area text, locale, and broad country hint to our place search provider so we can return matching food and drink venues. Search results may include provider place IDs, names, addresses, ratings, coordinates, websites, and phone numbers.
2.3 Automatically Collected Information
We may collect app usage, device, crash, and performance data to understand reliability and improve The Usual. In development builds, analytics and crash reporting are skipped.
3. How We Use Information
We use information to provide the app, save and organise your food memories, support optional cloud sync, process subscriptions, improve search and reliability, respond to support requests, and understand which parts of the app need work.
4. Local Storage and Cloud Sync
4.1 Local Storage
Your food memory data is stored on your device by default. If you use the app without signing in, your data stays on that device unless you export, delete, or later enable sync.
4.2 Cloud Sync
If you sign in and use The Usual Plus cloud sync, your saved data and supported media are synced to our Supabase backend so you can back up and restore your memories across devices. Cloud sync data is associated with your account and protected by row-level access controls.
5. Third-Party Services
We use selected third-party services to run The Usual: - Supabase for authentication, cloud database, storage, and sync. - RevenueCat for subscriptions and entitlement management. - Google Places for place search and place details. - PostHog for product analytics in production builds. - Sentry for crash and error reporting in production builds. - Apple App Store and Google Play for app distribution and payments. These services process information according to their own privacy policies.
6. Photos and Media
Photos you attach are chosen by you. They are stored on device by default and may be uploaded to cloud storage if you enable cloud sync. You can delete saved places and associated media from the app.
7. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share information only with service providers needed to operate the app, when required by law, to protect rights and safety, or with your consent.
8. Children's Privacy
The Usual is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
9. Your Choices
You can use The Usual without an account, choose whether to sign in, choose whether to use cloud sync, delete data on your device, delete cloud data from supported account tools, and contact us with privacy questions.
10. Data Retention
Local data remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app. Cloud data remains while your account and sync data exist, unless you delete it. Cache, analytics, crash, and operational records may be kept for a limited period for security, reliability, and service improvement.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide notice in the app or through another appropriate channel.
